Derrick Rose on New York: “More Love than in Chicago”

Derrick Rose has only been on the Knicks roster for a short time, and been in New York for an even shorter time. He is already receiving more love in New York than he did in his time in Chicago.

At first you would never think this with Rose being a Chicago native, a first overall pick, and a phenomenal player. The first thought would be that Chicago would love him to no end but Knicks fans have already overtaken the Chicago fans in loving Rose.

Rose is a three time all star, and an MVP winner while playing for the Bulls, but constant injuries kept him sidelined throughout the past seasons after his MVP year. While Bulls fans may not agree with the Rose trade, it seems to be working out very well for him.

A clean slate is exactly what Derrick Rose needs, it would be better for him to be able to leave the former MVP status that he had in Chicago and will now be able to focus on staying healthy throughout the whole season in New York.

Which is exactly what Rose needs to restart his career and possibly get close to being in that MVP form. The title drought is still ongoing in New York and the Knicks fans have given Rose an overwhelming amount of support and thats before he’s even stepped on the court in a uniform. Which makes me even more excited for the season just to see how the fans react to the new look Knicks.

While in an interview with NBPA’s Jared Zwerling Rose said this about the fans support: “I was feeling a lot of love. You feel that a little bit in Chicago, but it’s not on that level of New York, so it kind of makes you anxious to actually get on the court. It’s, like, ‘Man, they’re excited that I’m actually there.’ I haven’t even picked up a ball yet, I haven’t made a basket yet, and I can only imagine how they’re going to act when we start winning.”

Rose then elaborated on his new fanbase: “It’s a basketball culture there that’s missing. Our job is to bring that excitement back to the city. And it’s different playing there than actually being on the team, like the crowd there oohs and aahs for the little moves that you do when you’re on the opposing team. But when you’re on their team, they ooh and aah with everything. So I’m waiting for that excitement and just trying to be patient for it, because it’s going to be an exciting year I think for the whole city.”
