Following Manny Pacquiao’s boxing swan song with his victory over American Timothy Bradley Jr. in their third bout Sunday (PHL time), a boxing analyst sees Pacquiao’s career as far from over.
“Retirement is a permanent thing. Pero kapag sinabi mong boxing, puwede kang bumalik eh,” international boxing judge and referee, Danrex Tapdasan said in an interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Monday.
Tapdasan said even though Pacquiao’s victory is a perfect farewell fight of a great boxing hero, it is still possible for the Pambansang Kamao to enter the ring again.
“Actually hindi ‘yan imposible, kung babalik tayo sa history, sa mga great fighter – Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Sugary Leonard, Julio César Chávez Jr. even Roberto Duran – lahat nagretiro pero bumalik,” Tapdasan said.
Shortly after the fight, Pacquiao himself said his “heart is still 50-50 on retirement.”
“My heart is 50-50 but I love my family, I honor my family, my kids,” Pacquiao told reporters.
“Like I said, I might enjoy my retired life. I might come back. It’s hard to say because I’m not there yet,” he said. “Right now my decision is to retire.”
Unanimous decision for Pacman
After 12 rounds of heated punch exchanges, the jury unanimously ruled Pacquiao as the winner of the match.
“Si Manny kasi, ‘yung laban na ‘yun, maganda na eh. Sabi nga natin sa boxing walang sigurado. Sana iyon na ‘yung huling laban niya,” he said.
In his analysis, Tapdasan said Bradley came prepared for the fight.
“I think Bradley came in with this A-Game. Sa first quarter ng fight, competitive siya,” he said.
However, Pacquiao managed to snag two knockdowns against Bradley. Tapdasan said those were flash knockdowns.
“Hindi ko nakita na nasaktan, nahilo at nagroggy si Bradley. Hindi niya nakikita kung saan nanggagaling ‘yung suntok,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tapdasan was skeptical on the rumors that Pacquiao might compete in Rio Olympics happening later this year.
“I’m not positive na makakasali siya doon. Si Manny kasi, sa tingin ko, ‘yung laban niya na ‘yun maganda na,” he said, “Kasi kahit nagpakita si Bradley ng lakas at bilis sa simula, nag-adjust si Pacquiao, naging maingat.”
